She was predeceased by a child, Wayne, in 1944, and her husband, Martin, in 2000. Hazel was a strong Christian woman, who with her husband Martin, raised their own children as well as being foster parents. She and her husband were active with and fostered 26 children through the Lutheran Children's Bureau of Lehigh County.
Hazel graduated from Honesdale High School in 1932 and Wayne Commercial School in 1933. She supported many community and school activities, and in politics was a loyal Republican who took an active interest in public affairs. She and her husband lived in Bethlehem until they retired to Port Charlotte, FL in 1977. They spent the summers in Hawley, PA but have many close friends in Florida. Hazel moved back to Bethlehem, PA after her husband, Martin, passed away. She is a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Center Valley.
Hazel was active throughout her life, always ready to try new things. The last several years she enjoyed summer visits to the Jersey shore, dog shows, kite flying, auctions, Kutztown fairs, fireworks displays, local winery tastings, the annual peach festival at her church, and summer visits to the Hawley cabin that she and her husband built in 1952.
Hazel was a wonderful storyteller and family historian. She was active in researching her family's genealogy and traced her Pennsylvania ancestors to the early 1800's migrations from Connecticut and New York. Her grandfather was a Civil War veteran and she had two ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. Her stories instilled an appreciation for the lives and accomplishments of past generations. She recounted many stories about her family life before the industrial, medical, and technological advances of the last century. She enjoyed staying in contact with many relatives, ensuring the family stories and history was passed on to new generations.

Roma Ransom TIEL was born on Aug 30, 1842 in Prattsville, Greene County, New York. Prattsville, formed from Windham March 6, 1836, lost to found Ashland in 1848.
The town is situated in the western part of the county in one of the better of the
agricultural sections. Settlements were started in the region by the Dutch a few years after the French War, 1763.
During the Revolution they were attacked by a body of Indians and Tories, under British officers, who tried to drive the settlers from their homes. A pitched battle was fought with the routing of the invading forces. These settlements were near the present village of Prattsville, incorporated in 1883. He served in the military on Oct 10, 1864. served M Co. 198th Infantry Reg. PA in the Civil War.

PARDON TILLINGHAST was born at Seven Cliffs, Sussex, Eng., 1622, and died at Providence, R. I., January 29, 1718. He was the most prominent merchant of his day, and a very useful citizen, being Deputy six years, and Overseer of the Poor, a member of the Town Council, etc. In 1681 he became the pastor of the First Baptist Church, the building for which, as well as the land, he is said to have given. He married Lydia, the daughter of Philip and Lydia (Masters) Taber, on April 16, 1664, and died 1718. Issue, among others:

PHILIP TILLINGHAST, born at Providence, R. I., October, 1669, and died March 14, 1732, was a wealthy merchant, and took part actively in public life. He joined Captain Gallup's expedition against Canada, 1690; was a Deputy for twelve terms, Assistant
to the Governor 1714, and a member of the Town Council for eleven years.
His wife was Martha, the daughter of Jonathan and Sarah (Borden) Holmes, and they were married May 3, 1692. She was born 1675, and died March 10, 1729. Their daughter Anne, married her cousin, NICHOLAS POWER IV.

Pardon Tillinghast, b. 1622, at Seven Cliffs, Sussex Co., England. He served in Cromwell's Army. Came to Providence abt. 1646. He was Deputy 1672-1700. Member of Town Council 1688-1707. April 14, 1711, he deeded his house called the Baptist meeting house, "situated between the Town Street and salt water, together with the lot whereon said meeting house standeth, to the Church and their successors, for the Christian love, good will and affection which I bear to the Church of Christ in said Providence, the which I am in fellowship with, and have the care of as being elder of said Church."
He d. Jan. 29, 1718. His will, proved Feb. 11, 1718, says: "I do bequeath my life and spirit into the hands of the Fountain of life and Father of spirits, from whom I have received it, and my body to the dust from whence it came, in hope of a resurrection to eternal life."
Inventory,1,542, 4s. 3d. He was buried in his own lot at the south end of the town. He m. (2nd) April 16, 1664, Lydia, dau. of Philip and Lydia (Masters) Taber.
