Obituary: Martin F. Manger, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Bethlehem, died Jan. 1 in his home. He was the husband of Hazel F.(Tiel) Manger.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, he was an electrical engineer at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 42 years before retiring in 1976.
Born in Blooming Grove, York County, he was a son of the late Michael and Augusta (Martins) Manger. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Charlotte.
He and his wife were active with the Lutheran Children's Bureau of Lehigh County and fostered 26 children through the agency.
He was a former Salisbury Township auditor, Republican committeeman and overseer of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. credit union. A 32nd degree Mason in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, he was a member of the Blue Lodge, Bethlehem.
Survivors: Wife; daughters, Martha Bentley of Bethlehem and Sally White of New Haven, Conn.; sons, Martin of Kutztown and James of Bethlehem, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services: To be announced. Arrangements, Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.
Contributions: Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church youth group, Center Valley, or Hospice of Southwest Florida, 3028 Caring Way, Port Charlotte. Martin went to Sunday School at the Baptist Church on Route 402 between Rt. 84 and Rt. 6 near Hawley. When he was young, they used to go to town from the farm on a horse and buggy.
Martin's first car was an Essex.
Martin and his son Martin jr. built the cabin at Hawley (Lake Wallenpaupack) by themselves in the 1950's.
He worked at R.G.Dunn-Scranton (later Dunn/Bradstreet) 1929-30;
PA state highway dept.(to 1934); then Bethlehem Steel (1934-retirement).
He started at Bethlehem Steel and was soon promoted to foreman of the electrical department. His starting wage was $ 0.425 / hour. Fall of 1934 he started night school at Penn state. He tranferred to the high trension group the next year at Bethlehem Steel. He was drafted in 1939, but got a deferment due to his occupation in a key industry for the war.

She was always putting lotion on her hands...like constantl y...if she
wasnt putting lotion on her hands, she was picki ng at them or rubbing
them. Always doing something with he r hands. I dont know how it came
up but one day she was tel ling me about how she used to work at a
restaurant (durin g the depression I think it was) for like pennies a
day. I m not sure what the exact amount was but it was like ridicu
lous to me to think of 12 hour days working for candy money . She said
that she always worried about her hands gettin g rough because they
used Lye back then to clean with. Lik e serious full-strength lye
every single day.
Crazy stuff man.
She ate one single plain donut each and every morning wit h her cup of
coffee. She was totally satisfied with the mor ning if she was having
her donut and coffee sitting outsid e and listening to the TV. She
couldnt see it, she'd say... but she could hear it just fine

Funeral Services will be held today, Friday February 9th for Carl G. Martin, 72,
of Blooming Grove township, who died Tuesday, February 6th, 1979, at home
after an illness.
Son of the late Gustav and Marie Walz Martin, he resided in Blooming Grove
all of his life. His widow is the former Maria Haecker. Mr. Martin had been a farmer.
Also surviving are a son, Richard; a brother, Frederick, and a sister, Mrs. Louise
Immoor, all of Tafton, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley,
at 2 pm with the Reverend John Huber, Audubon, PA, officiating. Interment will be
at Pine Grove Cemetery, Paupack. Parents: Gustav MARTIN and Marie WALZ.
