PERKINS The family bearing this name is one of long and honorable standing in America, being one of the early settled families of New England, where it is first found of record in Hampton, then in Massachusetts, now in New Hampshire. Numbered among its members are found men who have been prominent in the learned professions, as well as in the business and financial circles of this country.......

(I) Abraham Perkins, born in 1611, came from England to America, and appears of record in New England in 1638, as one of the first settlers of .Hampton, where he was made a freeman, May 31, 1640. A man of good education, and an excellent penman, he was much employed in the town's affairs. He died August 31, 1683, at the age of seventy-two years, his widow, Mary, surviving him until May 29, 1706, when she passed away at the age of eighty-eight years. His daughter Mary married Giles Fifield, and was grandmother of Mary Adams, mother of the patriot. Samuel Adams. His will dated August 22, 1683, and probated September 18, 1683, mentions his wife Mary, and sons. Jonathan, Humphrey. James. Luke and David. An old family Bible still preserved among his descendants gives the birth dates of eleven of his thirteen children, which were as follows: Mary, born September 2, 1639; Abraham Jr., September 2, 1639; Luke, 1640-41; Humphrey, January 22, 1642; James, April 11, 1644; Timothy, October 5, 1646; James (2), October 5, 1647; Jonathan, May 30, 1650; David, mentioned below; Abigail, April 2, 1655; Timothy (2), June 26, 1657; Sarah, July 26, 1659; Humphrey (2), May 17, 1661.

Also, from the History of Hampton:
Abraham Perkins, born about 1613, was admitted freeman May 13, 1640. In January preceeding, the town granted him eighty acres of land; and in 1646, three shares in the commons. He was often employed in business for others and for the town. His handwriting is remarkably neat and legible, and is more modern in appearance than most of the old penmanship. He was Marshall in 1654. He seems to have remained through life where he first settled. He died suddenly, Aug.31, 1683, aged seventy years. His wife, Mary, died May 29, 1706, aged 88 years. Parents: Isaac PERKINS and Alice.

In 1900 he open a Cafe on the second floor of the Wormuth Block in Baldwinsville, and served hot meals and cold lunches on short notice at very reasonable rates. He lost his frist two fingers in a woodworking accident at the sash and blind factory. He spoke fluent french and would tell people he was an old canuk. Moved to Washington, DC. around 1919 and resided there, where he died.

Augustus G. PERKINS was born in 1822 in Great Britain. He died in Apr 1886 in Baldwinsville, NY. The first time he shows up is in the 1855 NYS census as living in the town of Lysander (Boatman), married and one child (Mary) and has lived there six years. His intent (first papers) to become a citizen of the US were filed in Oswego and he was naturalized a US citizen on Feb. 12, 1859. His paper read, "born in Great Britain" and his witnesses were Joseph Myers and Franklin Virginia of Oswego, NY. He was a boatman on the Erie Canel and traveled back and forth to NYC. Records state that there were thirteen children, but only eleven can be accounted for.

It has been stated down thru the generations that his name was "Paquet" in Canada and was changed to " Perkins" when he immigrated from Canada to the U.S.
